Lucan returns

Hello dahrrlings. I'm back. Back from hell. Contrary to popular belief, one can survive such an ordeal.

Right, I will try to blog more often from now on, though as I don't have my own computer, it will be sporadic at best.

Here's my initial (poor) offering. Several conversations around me recently have considered the topic of Christmas songs - the ones in the charts as opposed to churches - in terms of which is their favourite. Hence, here is my top three (though in no particular order). Please feel free to argue your case for whether they should be in there or not, and offer your alternatives.

1. The Pogues (& KM) - Fairytale of New York. I know this is a bit cliche and an easy choice, but I still love this song. My wife hates it, but that doesn't dampen the flames of enjoyment that leap all over my festive head at this time of year. Last week I was driving up the M3 at 7am. The sun was just coming up, there was frost on the trees on both sides of the motorway, and this was on the radio. Chin chin.

2. Band Aid - Do they know it's christmas? The original one, not the terrible covers. Again, superb track.

3. Here's the doosra/googly. Jona Lewie - Stop the Cavalry. I really like this song, and it's even better if you can remember the adaption of this song that was used to advertise John Smiths.

Ho ho ho. Three girls in Orlando.

Welcome back! The blog scene has been quiet without you.

Your first 2 choices are fine. But stop the bloody cavalry? Honestly! There are plenty of better alternatives. Such as "let it snow". Fine festive track. Have you seen the video for the Bing/Bowie Little Drummer Boy recording? Hilarious! Although Bowie sounds great.

Clearly you were not blessed by the John Smiths advert. Ok, a further ten points if anyone knows how to order a pint of Stones Bitter in Tibet?

Good to have you back man. Your skin returned to a good old British pasty-white yet?

I'm with you on Jona Lewie - that's a great one. There are loads of great Christmas songs mate...Wizzard ('Ok you lot...TAKE IT!'), Greg Lake, Eels ('Baby Jesus, born to rock!').

You need to give us the answer to the Stones bitter conundrum.
